A Study on nursing students¢¥ perception of importance of basic nursing needs & its performance


Abstract
The study was carried out subject to nursing students for obtaining the basic information to be helpful for the nursing education and practice in respect to the comprehensive nursing care and hopeful attitude that they might be pursue with, by analyzing the degree of perception of basic nursing needs and its performance.
The subjects for this study were 100 senior students of a nursing college locates in Incheon.
The instrument used was a questionnaire containing 74 items sub-divided by 4 categories of basic nursing needs, those are physical comfort care needs, observation & control care needs, psycho-social care needs, and therapeutic-nursing activity care needs.
The date were analyzed and evaluated by percentage, mean value, t-test and PearsonCorrelation coefficient.
The findings from this study were as follow
1. The perception level of importance (4,18) & performance (3,29) in regard to phys cal comfort care needs ; importance level was very high but performance level was moderate and difference between two levels revealed significance by t=6.88, p<0.01, d ? f=98.
2. The perception level of importance (.4, 24) & performance (3,14) in regard to observation & control care needs ; importance level was very high but performance level as moderate and difference between two levels revealed significance by t=8.38, p<0.01, f=98.
3. The perception level of importance (4,20) & performance (3,31) in regard to psychosocial care needs ; importance level was very high but performance level was moderate to and difference between two level, revealed significance by t=7.02, p<0.01, d ? f=98.
4. The perception level of importance (4,59) & performance (3,69) in regard to therapeatic-nursing activity care needs ; importance level was very high and performance level was relatively high and difference between two levels revealed significance by t 8.10, p<0.01, d ? f=98. 1
5. The score¢¥s according to priority in the 4 basic nursing needs categories for perception level ;1st therapeutic-nursing activity care needs (4,59) 2nd observation & control care needs(4,24) 3nd psycho-social care needs(4,20) 4th physical comfort care needs(,,18) for performance level ;1st Therapeatic-nursing activity care needs (3,69) 2nd pscho-soc
